As a former mathematician (I haven’t “run” in the past 3 months or 3 years, for that matter) who is actively involved in her children’s education, I am very interested to hear what you have to say, but … I would like to know more about your background
in mathematics, to put what you have to say in context. Is that possible?

Sure: I got my PhD in mathematics about 10 years ago, and have been working in the software industry ever since, in a variety of R&D positions. Most recently I’ve worked in the image/video codec world, and currently I work on stuff using and/or related to machine learning.

I really like teaching math, and have taught in a variety of settings (grad school, undergrad, community college, high school/middle school) over the years. For the 2006-7 and 2007-8 school years I coached a middle-school (6th & 7th grade) math club, that did pretty well. 🙂
